- Benefits of Armless Chairs
- How to choose an armless office chair
- Look for ergonomic design
- Ease of assembly
- Compact size
The sleek black look. Comfortable. High-quality materials. Great value. Ease of assembly.
You can see why the H5703 takes the top spot for the best armless chair. It is also very ergonomic, it takes care of your back even after sitting on it for a longer amount of time.
The leather is very soft but it will start to split a little after a couple of years of heavy usage, which is not unexpected. But, the mechanics work perfectly smoothly. Any turning around or tilting works flawlessly. And it has a very cool and helpful feature called “synchro-tilt” which keeps your back in perfect alignment. It’s certainly one of the best features we have seen on any chair on this list.
The Hon H5703 is a great option for taller people too, as it can be adjusted rather easily with the pneumatic seat adjustment.
The only downside to this chair is that it can be harder to clean than some other chairs on this list, but since it’s black, the stains won’t be that visible like they would be on a white chair.
The parts on this chair are high-quality and durable. That makes the chair have a very “premium feel” like it’s much more expensive but in actuality, it is not. The Hon Volt H5703 is reasonably priced and that adds to an already huge number of pros that this chair has.
We highly recommend this ergonomic chair to anyone that needs a good-looking and durable computer ergonomic chair without arms. No words can describe how good this chair is. Once you sit on it for the very first time, you will know why we like this chair so much.

- Stain-resistant seat made from polyester
- Pneumatic height adjustment
- Durable, rolling wheels
- Lifetime Warranty
- Classic design
- Height lever works inversly
This chair from Giantex has a modern, sleek look that will fit perfectly in a Manhattan office. But, with the way it looks, you would think that is incredibly expensive, but that isn’t the case. It is very well priced, and this design will make any office space look better.
Moving on to the ergonomic factor, arguably the most important factor you should think about when looking to purchase a new ergonomic office chair. This one is probably one of the best in that department, if not the best. This armless chair from Giantex features support for your back and waist and will make you comfortable sitting on it even for a longer period.
Because of the smoothness of the leather, it is made from, it can be cleaned very easily, something we don’t see on other chairs of this type.
There is a rod placed under the seat that allows you to change the chair height, from 17.5″ to 21.5″, making this Giantex chair suitable even for taller people. And since it works seamlessly, it is very easy to get the desired chair height.
The seat is very big, and if you are a bigger person or just want a more comfortable, wider seat you will be a huge, huge fan of this chair.
The leather on this chair is not the real one obviously (because of the price) but is a rather good imitation PU leather. You can’t ask for more at this price point.
There are not a lot of bad things we can say about this chair other than that the “leather” can get wrinkly, but that isn’t always the case.
This mid-back chair from Giantex is comfortable, wide enough for bigger people, looks freakishly good, and feels way much more expensive than it actually is.
- Back support
- Made from sponge and PU leather
- Height adjustable
- Easy cleaning
- Fantastic ergonomic design
- Modern looks
- Quite wide
- Looks expensive
- Could’ve been more padded
We were quite surprised with this chair from BestOffice. Since it is very cheap, didn’t expect it to have the quality it has. It is very ergonomic and its adherence to the back very well. Obviously not quite like the other, more expensive chairs, but still, very well for a chair in this price range.
It could be cushioned a bit more, but after a few hours sitting on it, it was still comfortable enough. Not the most comfortable computer chair without arms in the world, but we didn’t expect that at all because this is a chair that has a low price. The mesh back gives this chair breathability, which is much needed in the warmer parts of the year. Wheels roll smoothly on any surface, which is a huge plus.
Moving around works nicely, as the chair is very light, only 13 pounds, and the wheels roll smoothly. The thing that we liked very much is the seat adjustment system; it can go from 18.3 inches to 23 inches, which is a pretty good distance.
Another thing that we liked a lot was the ease of the assembly process as the assembly of this chair takes only 10-15mins, at most.
If you are a student or have a small space this is an option you should consider. It is a small desk chair that is very cheap and should last you a couple of years.
Oh yes, we almost forgot. It comes in a couple of vibrant colors, and not a lot of armless desk chairs on the market have that option. So, if you happen to have a colorful desk setup, this chair will fit that setup nicely.
- Made from mesh
- Mid-back design
- Easy to assemble
- Comes in many vibrant colors
- Great price
- A great option for smaller spaces
- Cushion can flatten
- Can sit on it only for a couple of hours, not made for long working hours
For those who want to go for a more expensive ergonomic office chair, this one from 2xhome is the way to go.
It is a mid-back task chair that focuses on a modern, office look, and we must say that it succeeds in that. It is a very nice-looking chair that will fit in nicely no matter the room you put it in.
And, there are many colors to choose from, so you can easily find the one for you.
Another great thing is the build quality. Since it is a bit more expensive, the materials used to make this chair are of higher quality and will last a long time, especially the metal parts.
Moving on to the comfort; it is great if you are seating on it, working for a couple of hours, but don’t expect it to be comfortable after seating on it a whole day and not standing up for a while. In this department, we give it a 4.5/5, as it could have come with a bit more padding.
Of course, there are the seat adjustment feature and the tilt feature that work very well, but when tilting too much you can hear a few squeaks here and there.
We haven’t yet said the best thing about this chair, and that is the ease of assembly. It takes you minutes, as all the tools that are needed to assemble it are included in the box.
A very good-looking chair that is a great option if you have some extra bucks to spend on a day-to-day armless chair for your office.
- Mid-back chair
- Ribbed stitching
- Made from PU leather
- Comes in many different colors
- Nice looks
- Wheels work smooth (plus they don’t damage the floor)
- Can be noisy
- Tilting can be too much
If you want an armless chair made from leather (not real leather, rather a quality imitation), this one from Office Star is the best option for you, in our opinion. There are a couple of great things that this chair has which we think make it the best leather office chair.
For starters, it is a very stylish chair; the modern design has really made it stand out in the crowd of classic-looking chairs. There are a couple of color options you can choose from, but the one that we liked the most was the Espresso one, as it fitted our office the best.
The base is chrome finished and stylistically it fits well with the other parts of the chair. The seat on this Office Star Faux Leather chair has an okay level of padding and will make you comfortable seating in for a couple of hours, but we think it could’ve been a bit better. Some people don’t find a problem in sitting on it for a whole working day, but, for us, it needed to be a bit more comfortable for spending that much amount of time on it.
Moving on to the things we didn’t like that much. These include the usage of plastic parts and the noise that it makes; which can sometimes be disturbing. We didn’t expect to find plastic parts on this chair, but hey, it is what it is.
Let’s finish on the positive side, and we have one more positive thing about this chair to mention, the ease of assembly. You don’t need tools to assemble it, and that makes the process very easy. Usually, the whole process should take no more than 15mins, which is up there with the best.
If you don’t plan to sit on a chair for 10 hours without a break, and want a stylish, modern-looking mid-back chair, this is undoubtfully the one for you.
- Contoured seat
- Pneumatic height adjustment
- Chrome base
- Very nice, modern design
- Back support is very good
- Easy assembly
- Plastic parts
- Can be squeaky
This is the best option for those who want a comfortable, nice-looking, low-back armless chair. It also has a reasonable price, which makes it a perfect low-back chair for students and for those on a budget. The looks truly set this chair apart from the other chairs in this category.
Since it has a reasonable price, it’s made from imitation leather and mesh, but for this price, you can’t expect a chair made from real leather. However, the imitation leather looks really good and looks like it should last some time. Of course, not like the real leather, but we didn’t expect that at all. However, there is a good side to this, and that is that the leather is super easy to clean.
The usage of imitation and mesh doesn’t impact the comfort of the chair very much. It’s certainly okay in that department and the mesh on the back of the chair allows the air to flow, guaranteeing you breathability when working on hot summer days.
However, this is not the department in which this chair “excels” as it needs a bit more back support to be good enough for long working hours for those who have some problems with their back. For others, we think it’s completely fine.
The Serta low-back armless chair is compact, a lot more than some other chairs on this list, and you can easily tuck it underneath a desk. But, that doesn’t mean that it is a bad chair for larger people.
The assembly process is a relatively easy one and should take you up to 15mins; not the best time on this list but still, very good. Other good things about this chair include the wheels and the adjustable height.
Highly recommended for those who need an armless, low-back office chair but don’t have a huge budget.
- Made from mesh and faux leather
- Seat is adjustable
- Comes in 4 different colors
- A great option for smaller spaces
- Great price
- Easy to assemble
- Looks fantastic
- Could’ve been sturdier
- Not made for heavier persons
This chair from Bowthy is incredibly ergonomic so much that when you work on it, for a longer period, it will still be a comfortable experience. The l-shaped design that this chair has, along with the sponge filling, really helps in making your work more comfortable and enjoyable.
The back support that this chair offers is on another level and that makes it a great option if you are in a need of a chair without arms that has a lot of support for your back.
It is also very compact which makes it so easy to put it under a desk to get more much-needed space.
The chassis of the chair is explosion-proof and has a weight capacity of about 250lbs, which is amazing. The base looks sturdy and very well made.
The wheels work perfectly; they move smoothly, have a 360-degree swivel, and won’t scratch your floor, moreover they work seamlessly on hard floors.
There are not a lot of bad things we can say about this armless chair. It ticks all the boxes a quality chair should have, from the ergonomics to durability, so it is not a big surprise that we would recommend this chair from Bowthy to anyone working long hours and in need of a comfortable chair.
The lower price point makes it a perfect option for students and those on a budget.
- Ergonomically designed
- Height adjustable
- Made from sponge
- Equipped with tools to assemble it
- Back support
- Very comfortable
- Easy to assemble
- Can make annoying sounds
- Cushion can flatten over time
If you are working on a height-adjustable, standing desk, you may want to have an adjustable drafting chair to sit on.
We believe this one from Boss Office Products is the best; it has plenty of features and comes at a great price. If you need to sit on an armless drafting chair for a longer period, this is the one for you.
Comfort is the name of the game with this one as it has enough padding and a contoured back/seat to get you through your day.
You can also easily adjust the height for your needs with the chair’s pneumatic gas lift seat adjustment.
Rollers work perfectly smooth, which we didn’t expect at all.
Another thing that we liked a lot is that, as it works well for smaller people, it is a great chair for bigger people too, people over 300lbs, which is a big plus.
Now to the downsides; this drafting chair has a few of them, which include the assembly process, which can be a bit confusing and the lowest possible position of the chair could’ve been a bit lower.
But, it is a strong, sturdy, well-made drafting chair that has great features and a great price tag.
- Contoured seat and back
- Chrome foot ring
- Height adjustment
- 27″ base
- Wheels roll smoothly
- Comfortable for longer periods
- Great for heavier people
- Quality made
- Assembly process can be a bit complicated
- Lowest possible position is still very high
This is a very serious, professional-looking chair from NOUHAUS. It is on the pricier side, but that is because it has features that most of the other chairs don’t have. We will explain all of them.
Let’s go from top to bottom.
We are starting from the Adjustable Headrest – and what it does is it moves up and down according to your position, giving much-needed support to your neck. A very convenient feature that works smoothly.
Another adjustable feature is the Armrests – which move in different directions and are quite well padded.
Moving on, we have Dynamic Lumbar Support – a feature that adds to the comfort and support of the chair. Like the Adjustable Headrest, it works perfectly. We were very surprised.
Getting to the wheelbase; it is made from aluminum – strong, sturdy, they provide great stability. The roller wheels roll smoothly and quietly and most importantly, they protect the wooden floor.
Now, the design of the seat itself is great but we feel it could’ve been padded a bit more. It still is very comfortable nonetheless, but we think it could’ve been even better.
The NOUHAUS Ergo3D is a great chair; it is ergonomic, has plenty of support for the lower back, looks good and the build quality is great.
If you are interested, jump into our in-depth review of the NOUHAUS Ergo3D here.
- Adjustable armrest
- Mesh headrest
- Iron base
- Adjustable headrest really helps
- Padded armrests
- Support for lower back
- We wished for more padding
- Not ideal for heavier people
Another entry from NOUHAUS in this list is their ErgoFlip mesh chair, which wins first place for the best chair with flip-up arms.
It is one of the most ergonomic chairs on this list which has a headrest, aluminum wheelbase, and foldable arm pads like NOUHAUS pricier model, the Ergo3D Ergonomic Chair.
Chairs with flip-up arms are a great option for people who want the best of both worlds, and none is more quality-made and more comfortable than this one.
What we especially liked about this chair is its flexible mesh back, which adds to comfort and breathability. However, it can pop out after some time of usage, and that is this chair’s biggest downside.
Let’s speak now about its positive sides; those include the seating contours that really relax the back, the great design and softness of the armrests, and the smooth working rollers.
You also get an extra set of rollerblade wheels in case they break, which is a very nice touch.
The ErgoFlip comes in four colors, which include Black, Blue, Burgundy, and Grey. Those colors apply to the mesh parts of the chair and arms and other parts are colored in black no matter which colorway you choose.
With all the features this chair has, and its supreme ergonomics, it is really not hard to see why it takes the number one spot in this category. We only wish that the mesh was put in the chair better and the price was a tiny bit better.
- Ergo Flip
- 4 colorways to choose from
- You get an additional set of wheels
- Quality made
- Materials are great
- Quite comfortable
- Takes 10-15mins or less to assemble
- The seat is not wide enough for bigger people
There are several benefits the armless office chairs have and we will explain 5 of them now, for you to see if they are just the type of chair you need.
- Space efficient
Probably the main benefit, and certainly the one we like the most about this type of office chair is they take very little space.
Armless chairs can very easily be put under the desk when they are not in use and since they have no arms, more of them could be put side by side in a big open office, reception, conference rooms, etc. saving valuable space.
If you are working from home, and have a smaller home office, the armless chair can be a great option for you, because of its compact size and space-saving abilities.
- Getting closer to the desk
Since desk chairs with no arms don’t have big, bulky arms you can then get much closer to your desk, as those arms won’t get in the way and bumping into your desk.
This is very important when sewing for example, or doing any other precise work that requires you to get as close as possible to the desk.
- More economic than regular office chairs
Since these chairs use less material than those regular office chairs with arms, you will be paying for an armless desk chair way less than you would for a chair with arms.
And, arms on regular office chairs can break very often and it will require more money to get that fixed. No such problems on the armless office chairs.
- Versatility and movement
Armless office chairs, as they are much more compact than regular office chairs, let you sit on them in some irregular ways, if that is how you like to sit on a chair. That is not possible on the other types of chairs.
They are more compact, but they are also lighter, making them much easier to move around the office, or any working area, and be placed in different places.
Because it is easier to move the chair around, that makes it easier to move in the chair. If you are the type of person who likes to move around the office in a chair, armless ones would be a great option for you.
When people are sitting on an armrest chair after a long time, working, they tend to put their weight on one side, which is bad for posture. These types of chairs exclude the option of putting the weight on one side.
You should always strive for a chair with the best possible ergonomics because that will prevent bad posture and will make you work more comfortably.
Look for an added headrest; it makes the pressure on your neck smaller and relieves pain.
There are a couple of factors you should pay attention to before deciding to purchase a new armless chair for your office.
Those factors can significantly make your work time much more pleasurable and comfortable.
As we laid out before, ergonomics is a super important factor you should look at.
A good, ergonomic armless chair can relieve stress on your spine and muscles, relieve and minimize pain, making your work a much more enjoyable experience.
For the sake of your back, don’t buy an armless chair that is not designed with ergonomics in mind.
Look out for chairs that are complicated to assemble or don’t come with the tools to assemble them. You don’t want to lose countless time and extra money assembling a chair.
Thankfully, most armless chairs are very easy to assemble and require very little time to do so.
If their chair requires some tools to assemble it, most manufacturers deliver the tools (or a tool) together along with the chair.
If you don’t work in a big space, for example, you have a small home office, you don’t want to make a mistake and purchase a big chair that won’t fit in your small space.
Measure the chair’s dimensions and see if it will fit in your space.
Another big factor you should pay attention to is the durability of the chair.
Nobody wants to buy a new armless chair with their hard-earned money just to see it break after a couple of months.
Go with a chair that has a durable base and that is made from quality materials.
A good quality, proper armless chair needs to have a seat and a backrest that are well padded; that allows for more comfort.
Now, there are a couple of different materials used to make an armless chair.
The mesh ones don’t have enough padding and can be too stiff. But, they are a great option if you want an easy-to-clean, breathable armless chair.
If you prefer a mesh chair, you maybe want to add a seat cushion to make your chair more comfortable.
The type of that that has more padding on the back is the faux leather one. They have no ventilation but are much more padded.
So, look if the chair has a normal amount of padding, not too little and not too much; just right.
Not a huge factor to consider but a factor nonetheless; look how a chair will fit stylistically in your space.
The chair should fit nicely in your office and not stand out much. We prefer the minimalistic, classic ones and they blend in the best, in our opinion.
This is it, our list of the best armless chair you could get on the market right now. We like armless office chairs for their design, versatility of use, and price point.
We hope that we helped you in your decision on which one to buy as we know it can be difficult because of all the pros and cons and different factors you should consider before purchasing one, which can get very difficult and complicated.
Hon Volt H5703
There is truly no big surprise that we would recommend Hon Volt H5703 to everyone who looks for a new armless office chair.
It’s comfortable for long hours, assembly takes very little time and the price is right.
Best Armless Office Chairs in 2022. After conducting thorough research, we nominated the Serta Essential Mesh Low-Back Armless Office Chair as our Top Pick and the best armless office chair. We liked that this pick featured built-in lumbar support in a breathable mesh back design.
More active Than an Armed Chair
While a chair without arms is not better than a stool for active sitting, it is better than a chair with arms in terms of keeping your back and spine in constant motion.
- Most Comfortable Overall – Steelcase Leap Chair.
- Best Back Support – Eurotech Vera Chair.
- Best Arm Comfort – Steelcase Gesture Chair.
- Best for Computer Desk – Humanscale Diffrient Smart Chair.
- Best for Seat Comfort – BTOD Akir Chair.
- Best Under $200 – Boss B7501 Chair.
What people say about armrests worsening your posture is not true. On the contrary, using a desk chair with armrests gives you more back and neck support. Our arms need something that holds them or supports them while we work. That reduces muscle strain and eases the load on your back.
As a general rule, armrests provide support for the upper body, shoulders, and neck, and overall comfort while improving posture. Using armrests can reduce shoulder shrugging and forearm contact stress, which are both excellent reasons to use them.
Chiropractors recommend kneeling chairs as they help your body maintain its natural curvature of the spine and ease discomfort in the lower back.
Office chairs can range in price from $100 to $1500, depending on the build quality, adjustments and other factors. You should expect to spend around $350 to $800 on a high-quality ergonomic chair with a 10-year warranty, customization options and at least four other features.
It's a well-known fact that chairs with arms are much more ergonomic, especially if you are going to be sitting at them for a long time. They're much nicer to lounge in as you can rest your arms and truly relax.
Armchair: These dining room chairs have rests for your arms. Typically found at the head of a table, armchairs have a formal feel. They can be fully upholstered or made of all wood, plastic, wicker, or metal.
Dining chairs are not required to fit under the table and still can provide a comfortable dining experience for you and your guests. However, if you do have a smaller dining area, chairs that can tuck underneath the table may be a better option for you.
They promote good posture.
Task chairs evolved from the operator-style chairs that typists and early stenographers used. These chairs were designed to help keep the back straight and the weight off the shoulders, so that typing speed increased.
